Ugh, Ground Control Weight Jack help...

So im trying to figure out what i need as far as rear weight jacks go. Ive emailed back and forth with GC a few times and they havnt exactly been helpful or clear, at all. I actually even feel like i was slightly blown off for some reason simply based on the brief interaction ive had.

ANYWAY, i need to know what rate rear spring to get with the jacks. Up front i will be using moog OE replacement springs (no weight jacks up front or anything). GC told me they dont know what to suggest.

They offer 150, 175, 200, 225, 250, 275, 300, 325 and 350 for the rear. Any help would be greatly apprecated. Thanks

Starting off....Last time I heard GC sold full sets only, not front/rear/partial sets. So are they now selling half sets?

What is the intended purpose of the car? Daily Driver & how "stiff" are you willing to go? Drag? Autocross?

Re: Ugh, Ground Control Weight Jack help...

They only offer full sets on thier site but from what little i got they will sell half sets or he wouldnt have been asking me what rate the front springs are so he could suggest a good match. Its going to be a daily driver. I dont mind it being a little stiff but dont want anything harsh to drive.

Re: Ugh, Ground Control Weight Jack help...

I'd go with the 175s then. 200 is getting still for a 3rd gen & I wouldn't run that on the street unless you really liked to play. And even then on the uneven road road surfaces that could upset the rear handling.

A few years ago I had a set of rears only & they wouldn't sell me just the fronts. I ended up finding a used full set later & got the full set for half the New price.

Re: Ugh, Ground Control Weight Jack help...

Im assuming(maybe a stupid idea) that they will since i said i only needed the rears and he asked what the front spring rate was to get a good match. I wouldnt have any need for the fronts at all and it would just be a lot of wasted money. Im hoping something comes of this and i havnt been set on some sort of email blacklist. lol

Re: Ugh, Ground Control Weight Jack help...

Well the spring rate for the rear is best determined if you know the front spring rate because there's a certain ratio you want to stay within. For example I'm running 800lb springs in the front and I use 200lb springs in the rear. Most people would opt for a 175 rear in my situation for neutral handling but I prefer a little bit of oversteer. Plus my car is lowered quite a bit so my rear roll stiffness needs to be more than most.

The moogs are advertised at 748 up front. The car will have a 2in. drop when everything is said and done.

Really? I didn't realize moog made them that stiff for OE replacement. If true, I would got with a 150lb/in rear spring. These cars like about 5:1 front to rear ratio.

I'm running 650/150 for a 4.333 ratio & have no complaints in the ride or handling.

Its just a guideline. You would only notice an issue at the limit anyway. It is hard to find the limit on the street.

Optimal ratio will depend on front to rear weight, sway bar size, and driver preference.

I run 850/175 and find it a touch loose with 34/23mm sway bars and a slightly better weight distribution than stock.

I know. Just sharing what I have on my daily driver as a comparison for him.

Hmmmm.....When I had Rears only they wouldn't sell me Fronts. I ended up buying a full used set & I'd ask them for Fronts now but I don't have another 3rd gen to put them in.

IDK what to tell you about the fronts really. I was only given info on the rears. If they dont offer the fronts by themselves theres probably some rean for it. Maybe more people want rear sets so they have xtra or something.

Both of you guys bought Rears only & it was 2 years ago I tried to buy Fronts only.

So either they will sell Rears only or have changed their policy about selling half sets. I don't care enough to ask them & I just figured that I have a spare set of rears or I could always sell them some day.

Re: Ugh, Ground Control Weight Jack help...

Im thinking they may not sell front sets by themselves. The fronts must cost more based on th rear set price and id assume its easier for them to sell rear sets by themselves. IDK, but theyll sll me what i need so im happy. Once those come in all ill need is an adjustable panhard bar and the car is getting dropped.

Re: Ugh, Ground Control Weight Jack help...

Ive got another quick question for you guys. I know its been discussed a bit already but id like a little more input. If i were to get the full kit what front and rear rates would you suggest? I would be using the back to drop the car down and the front would just be there in case i have room to play with (depends on how much clearance i have with drop spindles). I was thinking a bit stiffer would be good but im not so sure. As ive mentioned this will be a street car, not a race car. Thanks
