jack the front of the car up to a reasonably good height, set two jack stands on the frame rails of the car. If you have a spare jack i would leave one under the X-member, if not its okay. Put slight pressure on your lowere control arm just under the spring, make sure you can get to you sway bar end-link, remove the end link and remove you brake caliper to avoid possibly damaging a line. Do not un-hook the brake line itself, this is not neccesary. Next youll want to open the hood and locate the nut that secures the strut to the upper strut mount, remove this nut. At this time you will be ready to SLOWLY let your jack down to release the pressure on the spring. Watch to make sure everything clears, ESPECIALLY the top of the strut!!!!! Be very carefull removing the spring because it is under tension, i removed every set of mine with no issue of the flying out.

Re: @&&^%# front coil spring install
I recently went through this as well. The way I installed mine is I used a spring compressor to compress the spring. I had to use a 4" long section of pipe that went from the bottom nut part of the tool up to the lower claw section. I was able to get the springs compressed enough by hand. Once compressed, feed the bottom (nut) through the hole in the a-arm, then get the top of the spring positioned correctly in its mount. Have a jack ready under the a-arm and start jacking up the arm slowly. I'd raise the arm a little and then take a second to make sure everything was aligned correctly. Once the bottom coil is hooked in the lip of the bottom arm, it should go smooth the rest of the way up. The thing that took the longest time for me was getting the hooks on the tool in the proper spots so that the bottom nut would align in the a-arm hole and leave enough clearance to get the arm jacked up without hitting the tool. One tip I got from a mechanic friend is to take some tape and wrap it around the spring coils where you want to put the hooks of the tool. This will keep the hooks from sliding around on the spring as you are tightening the tool. It took me probably 3 days to get the first side in. Once that side was in, the other side took maybe 45 mintues.

Re: @&&^%# front coil spring install
After you have done what i listed above you will want to put your new spring in, flat side up, top first. The spring should set in the bottom pocket with the end of the coil setting near the 2 holes in the inner part of the A-Arm, if you are using a lowering spring you should be able to get this part to wedge in there, after its in, adjust the jack more towards the ball joint and jack it back up, making sure that the strut hits its mark. IF you are using factory style spring or cannot complete this the way i have you will need to set the spring in the A-arm with the end of the coil lined up as mentioned above, then put your compressor throught the bottom of the A-Arm and connect it to the spring, next compress the spring jack it up into place, and connect your strut to the upper strut mount, THEN release and remove the compressor. I have never had to use a spring compressor so to those who have please correct me if im wrong!!!!!!!

Re: @&&^%# front coil spring install
Loosen it all back up like your taking the spring back out and use some muscle to try and get it to set down in the pocket correctly, if not you get to do it again
