Re: Broken Axle

I'd check the local yards and craigslist for 89+ rear ends for better gearing and/or brakes. The 89-97 PBR's are a nice upgrade over drums. The best bet may be the LS1 rear which will have a better L/S and a better parking brake.

If you haven't perused the 10-bolt FAQ, you might find it interesting/informative.

Best of luck in your search.

You're a good person JamesC. On that note, he's right. There is also the aftermarket, ford 9" conversions, and my personal favorite. The Strange S60.

I will second this. I do notice you always have very informative links and are extremely resourceful James. Alot of answer like this I would have no clue as for what year part fits into what other years on alot of things other than what I had in my car and knew in OEM parts.

As for upgraded axles- I went to Moser for some high end custom axles and was very disappointed when a year and a half later I found out they did a crapy job of heat treating them- they grooved from the bearing seals in about 15,000 miles- My personal recommendation is to stay away from Moser

Re: Broken Axle

Thanks guys... i am running on a verry low budget.. and i was thinking of just replacing the axle but i dont want to risk having a bent Rear end.. So i did a search and there was a spline difference? if i hit the local junkyard i should just look for a car my year? i have an 88.. im sure its the stock rear end.i just want more acceleration so im guessing higher gears would help? LSD would be nice but if it cost too much im guessing its out of the picture

Re: Broken Axle

saw the Axles on ebay.. im guessing that replacing the axles in pairs would make it even... plus if they are used i might as well get them myself from the junyard and get a matching pair... i have a 10 bolt 3.08... 26 spline.. checked the LCA and they where crushed... the panhard looks a little crooked... can i just get used panhard and LCA from the same car if they are not in too bad shape?

Before you make any decisions, be certain the axle tube or flange itself isn't bent. If so, look at rear end replacement.

You can use the panhard/LCA's from the donor car--if you can remove them. Often the securing bolts are frozen in place.

I want LSD... what 4rd Gen Has them and how do i check if they are still good or worn out?
