Lakewood Control arms w/ mini ladder bars?

Just scored a set of these rear control arms. They have they're own little bar connected to them that also attaches to the axle via its own little bracket? Kinda like a mini ladder bar. Are these junk/pointless. I can upload a picture later if no one knows what im talking about. Paid 60 bucks for them. They're the square tubing grease-able poly type bushing control arms. It looks like they would help prevent axle twist. Let me know if these are a decent set up. Thanks guys. Also scored a hotchkis adjustable pan hard for 40 bucks.

Re: Lakewood Control arms w/ mini ladder bars?

They are junk. Scrap the brackets and other parts and keep the poly control arms by themselves. The idea behind the those lakewood parts is to eliminate the torque arm and gain traction. Problem is they are too small and the brackets are weak and wil fail.

Here's a picture. I figured these would at least help the stock torque arm out. Not eliminate it.

I got a set on my car and they work fine. However I did break one, just had it welded back where it cracked. I've broken quite a few things on my car with really hard launches (see sig)....nothing new there.

Definitely much better than the stock control arms. Keep em, I've been running mine for 10yrs now.

Interesting idea. But is this the same piece the OP posted a picture of? What he has almost looks like an LCA with a built-in LCARB.

Yes, they are the exact same part. If you aren't doing any 1.5 60ft launches, they'll work fine. They are called Lakewood Lift-Bars - designed to load the rear end and eliminate control arm flex.

Some love them.....some don't, it just depends on your intentions for the car.

Looks like quite an interesting piece, however the street is where my car lives 95% of It's life, and these look like they would KILL handling. Def a nice mod for a track car though. I'd run a set if I wasn't worried about the bendies.

Re: Lakewood Control arms w/ mini ladder bars?

I don't see how the would kill handling. They are just preventing axle twist.

With LCARBS, if you adjust the angle of the LCA too far downward it will make the vehicle prone to oversteer when exiting a corner.

These look like they're basically doing the same thing.

Re: Lakewood Control arms w/ mini ladder bars?

Never had any over steer problems, it just prevents axle twist...like mentioned earlier. If you're looking into doing some serious cornering this isn't what you need. It enhances straight line performance.

I have an 9-bolt with an Australian full-spool so i take it easy in the corners.

Re: Lakewood Control arms w/ mini ladder bars?

the stiffest end of the vehicle is almost always the one that will slide around. with that being said if you are caring about handling then i would probably look elsewhere for parts but personally i don't think i would do enough corner carving is a strait axle car to really care about it, more on the strait road type of guy with these cars, but to each his own i guess

Re: Lakewood Control arms w/ mini ladder bars?

These arms don't change the angle of the rear control arms. They're just adding extra reinforcement. The beauty of these bars is that I can add or remove a little ladder bar depending on what type of driving I'm doing

Yep.....that's correct. Factory control arms will flex, these won't. Pretty simple.

Re: Lakewood Control arms w/ mini ladder bars?

on a side note:

the Lakewood parts you have there are never Intended to eliminate the torque, at any time!

ONLY to help pre load and tune Your factry Set Up

so anybody thats running THEM with out there TQ arm...give them a smack!

this also falls under, the goofballs who Run the south side Lift bars/ladder bars.
and remove the LCAs..LOL, THEY should read the how to install part, that comes with them!!

Exactly. I wouldn't remove tq arm. Just the tuning capabilities are what interest me.

Re: Lakewood Control arms w/ mini ladder bars?

they will help take, a bit of the slack, out of the stock set up
preloading the rear end/pinon angle up or down. to the way you like.
note: not to be set up like a dilivry Truck...lol!

lakewood adds (not intended for Drag Racing).
