Subframe connectors, some quick qustions

Hi everyone,
A friend of mine has a new set (unused) of umi subframe connectors..
I believe my car would benefit from these (t-tops, rattles etc), any thoughts on the umi brand of connectors?

My friend is offering me them for only $135, he owes me a favor (or two)and really needs the cash.

I know that I would have to have them welded in for proper install..For me, this would mean having a body shop (I guess) torch them in..My question's:

1. About how much $$$ (ball park) is fair or comon pay for the weld install?

2. Since the install will cost coin, should I look for a better set other than the umi's?

3. Since I would have to have this welded in by a third party, should I also spring for a wonder bar and just have it all done at once? (while im there?)

Any and all input appreciated,
Peace to you all

The UMI's are great! just make sure the installer knows to have the whole weight of the vehicle on the wheels while welding them in. I will go out on a limb and say maybe you could install the wonder bar by yourself.

I am in the market for a set of subframe connectors also. When I am ready to have them welded I will ask around to find someone who knows how to do it properly.

The wonder bar is not welded, it is bolted.

UMI is a great choice!

Knowing how the job is, I'd expect to pay between $50 and $100 depending on where and who does it. You can save a couple bucks by prepping weld areas ahead of time.

Wonder bars are 100% bolt-in.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Re: Subframe connectors, some quick qustions

I had an exhaust shop weld mine in for $100.00 and he did a great job. After the weld work was done, he even went as far as to put cold galvanizing compound over the welded areas so there would be no chance of rust on the bare metal.

Man that is awesome. THANK YOU ALL for your very informative responses.

My buddy, (the guy who has the frame connectors) raved about the umi brand sfc's, so that is good to know that he was correct and they are top notch quality, and I just called him to let him know that yes I do want them, its a done deal.
Also, for some strange reason I incorrectly thought that wonder bars are torched on for install. Yes, I will do that myself. Also, I never thought of a muffler or exhaust shop to do the sfc's but that is alsoo an excellent point. And I will make sure the vehicle is under load (grounded) for that install. Great points all the way around, and the install sounds like it should be pretty cheap..
Last question:
Which wonderbar to go with TDS or UMI?
TDS wonderbars tout that they will fit any 3rd gen camaro without issue and that they are the only brand that use 3 bolts per side on the mounts.
Since they are close in price, any thoughts on what brand is a better fir for my 92 RS?
Thank you all again, and be well

Re: Subframe connectors, some quick qustions

Our bar is two bolt but we've never had a complaint and it braces things up nicely.

Here is a link to our FB album for the '85 we just built this spring. It has your same part number SFC's and wonder bar installed.

This car absolutely rips and is a solid, general purpose rocket.
