Spring Issue
Spring Issue
Hi guys. I found a great deal on Eibach Pro rear springs at a pull-a-part so I grabbed them. What I'm wondering is should I order the matching front springs or cut either my stock 84's front springs or I could get front springs from an 89 GTA from the pull-a-part and cut those.
I'd just order the Eibach springs, but I assume the only benefit is a matched spring rate. I am planning to add a sub box (probably fiberglass to save weight) for two 12's, amp rack, and possibly a second battery in the rear glovebox location. This will easily add 100 lbs over or beyond the rear axle. Would there be any benefits to the Eibach springs? I'd assume I'll need to do some cutting of the front's regardless to level things out correct?
Any help is appreciated. I've read many lowering threads, but since people usually order springs in complete sets it's an odd issue.

Re: Spring Issue
The biggest factor in "best" springs is the use of the car. Pro kits are the more liked of the eibach springs as the sportline rears have really low rates and all eibach rears are progressive springs which is fine for a daily driver/cruiser but for autoX/Road Race linear springs are ideal. A lot of people buy the moog stock replacement springs and cut them to their ideal ride height and (may want to read around and double check this) the shortening of the springs increases the rate to a very desirable rate. Enough for the weight of your stereo? i don't know but i know the info is on this site, I've seen it but cant remember it all.
Personally, I purchased weight jacks for my 92 camaro cause I autoX and like you have a hefty stereo in back. They weights jacks allowed me to choose a linear rate high enough to compensate for the added stereo weight and of course ride height.

I'll do some more research on the weight jacks then. I've seen them mentioned in drop threads, but never any mention of their purpose and didn't understand the function. They sound like exactly what I need. The little bit I do know about suspension and steering I've learned on here in the last four months. Thanks for the tips.

Re: Spring Issue
Forgive me if i misunderstood the question, but I'm referring to Ground Control Weight Jacks. Google them. They are what I believe to be the better alternative to coil overs for our cars. they go in place of the stock springs and allow you to adjust the ride height (about 3"), choose your spring rate, and all springs are linear. The tech recommended 850/250 springs for my car cause of all my dynamat and stereo. Those rates sound high for a mostly DD/occasional AutoX and I thoroughly questioned him on those rates but he was sure that was best for me.
