Want to replace all steering linkages..

Alright so I want to replace all the linkages on my steering since everything is stock and who knows how much longer there going to last...but I am not too familiar with what parts I will need......can you guys help me out..?

Also thinking about replacing the strut mounts as well because I also plan on installing a tower brace but my question was what is the big difference between this mount

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/up...t/model/camaro

and this one

The aftermarket (UMI) towers are more adjustable. If your vehicle is stock height or within an inch of stock height you would be fine with the regular/stock style strut mounts. If you will or already have the vehicle lowered go with the UMI or Founders or spohn aftermarket mounts. By being a taller mount they allow for more strut travel on lower vehicles. The aftermarket mounts also have more room for adjustment-they are double adjustable. I have heard from many members that our stock strut mounts have as much or more adjustability than aftermarket mustang towers.

Check with RockAuto on the linkage and ball joints. I replaced mine with Moog parts at a great price.

One stop shopping for the correct parts. Picture of STB on a TPI (note it dose not use the strut mounts).

Right on, also the umi are a spherical bearing to decrease or eliminate deflection (more rigid). the kyb are stock replacement and made of rubber. depends on how serious you plan on getting. since I autoX and will be installing weight jacks I plan on getting the UMI ones myself. Founders are cheaper but i like matching parts.

If you answer yes to either of these questions you will benefit from the UMI/founders/whoever strut mounts.
1. is the car lowered?
2. Does the car see track time? AutoX or road race?

Re: Want to replace all steering linkages..

pretty much on my car suspesion mods are:

Eibach Sportlines all around
KYB-GR2 all around
36mm fron sway bar
wonder bar

so I think I will be geting the UMI

I also saw that Founder has a descent pair of strut mounts for around $160ish u guys think theres is worth it or should I go with UMI?

Re: Want to replace all steering linkages..

if you go to umi and founders websites they are almost identical in construction so IMHO you might as well save a little coin with the founders. i've seen quite a few people using them in these threads. do a search on the founders caster/camber plates and see what people say about them. I do encourage you to read more than just my input cause i do believe that UMI/founders being raised to help shock travel will be beneficial but i have no idea how it will affect you ride quality as they are also more rigid. so like i said, please read more, search caster/camber plates and see what those that have installed them say about them.

Re: Want to replace all steering linkages..

it is all about the driver. I did Auto cross against a Nissan Sentra SE and he beat everyone but 1 of the Corvette drivers. Most people cannot drive at the full capacity of their vehicle. Myself included.

+1

For this kind of stuff you can save a small fortune at rock auto. Quality parts without "Race car" powder coating on them... You can get cheap garbage from rockauto too if you're in a bind, but I dont recommend it.

I got an LS1 brake swap done with a lot of parts from rock auto and was shocked at how cheap some of it was. Longer wheel studs, brake pads, and rotors all for less than $100 if I remember right. For maintenance parts you just cant beat them.

Also, you can go under the car and try to move the steering linkage parts around, or put the car on ramps and watch as someone turns the wheel, and you will see where all the flex is, which will give you an idea of the condition. Fresh parts will have very little flex, they will just move the next part in the chain.
