My old struts

I notice at the top of the cartridge that there seems to be a nut similar to the Koni Yellows that replaced them. Are all struts for these cars made that way or might these be something worth saving?

Re: My old struts

Look like wore-out 25-yr-old OE stuff to me.

Not worth saving. Too heavy for a door stop, not heavy enough for a boat anchor. Utt bucking fugly and an odd shape besides. Not good for anything.

Re: My old struts

My local recycling place has a bin for that type of stuff. I have to drop it off, though. If I take it to the street, the truck won't take it.

Re: My old struts

Are these possibly original Bilstein struts? If so, worth having them rebuilt/'furbed...

Re: My old struts

Nope, Bilstein only made factory rear shocks on the IROC. Fronts were Delcos with better valving. Unless you're dead set on building a 100% factory car, having the stock stuff rebuilt isn't worth it, if they'll even touch them. You can get a fresh new set of Bilstein HDs or Koni Yellows for about the same cost when it's all said and done and I'd be willing to bet that those would blow whatever the stock ones could've done out of the water.

Got it! Explains why I have Bilstein's in the rear... but black unmarked struts up front. Thanks for responding!
