I can get a great deal on an '89 RS, it comes with an '83 parts car, and all kinds of other crap. Anyway, the car got whacked, the radiator support and frame around it are in need of replacement. I think the frame could be repaired, but to hell with that, it'd just make more work.
I need to know if the front subframes are interchangeable from the '83 to the '89. Also, are there any websites, books, etc. (or people) that can tell me how to swap them (the right way) and how much of a royal pain it'll be. Before you send the "forget it, just buy a better one" messages, I've got to tell you, I've got acess to the tools, space AND time to work on it, and I like big projects like this.
BTW: I also need info on a 350 swap, just a 6 now, which is tolorable, but more power to wreck my hours of work on the car makes it more fun.

You know the subframes are welded in not bolted, right?

Unlike first and second gen f-bodies that had the front subframes bolted to the body, third and fourth gen's are welded to the floor of the car. The old subframes were great for old car conversions. Unbolt from donor car then graft into frame of old car. I did a 51 chev once. It was very simple.

Now that they're welded in, you'll need to cut them out of the body and weld the subframe into the new body. A frame rack will probably be needed to make sure everything is in proper alignment. It might be cheaper to just take the car to a frame shop and let them straighten it.

okay, well, I'll se how bad the '83 is and maybe fix up that. I took a subframe off on an 80's dodge (k car i think), it was to mangled to tell and I dont pay much attention to fwd 4 door 4 bangers.
