Trying to install kyb agx

Hi all !
I'm trying to replace the struts. Got old ones off ..no problem.
The agx's are in, but I cannot figure out how to tighten the top lock nut without the shaft spinning. There is a cutout on the treads to get a wrench on to hold the shaft, but the locknut is blocking this. What can I do to hold the shaft, or what other options are there to do?
Thanks !!

Do you have a jack under the control arm loading the suspension? If so, right or wrong, I just use a impact

Yes, i have a jack under the arm to compress things. My air compressor will not run my impact ( air line to small ).
I just ran across an old thread where someone ditched the self lockers and used regular nuts. Im thinking of going this way.

Re: Trying to install kyb agx

I just did this a week ago and the same thing happened to me. i reached down underneath the fender and held the shaft to get it started. on the other side I found you have to lower the jack so there Is some pressure on the strut and it will start threading. then the bolt will start and you can put a box wrench on the flat spot.

Re: Trying to install kyb agx

I have no clearance to grab the shaft....i looked there before posting this
I ended up using the old nuts from the prior struts. The nylon was wore enough to let me thread it on easier.
Things are all in and tight. WOOT !!

Thanks all for the replies

Just curious if you wouldn't mind giving us a review on them now that they have been installed for a few months? Appreciate your thoughts!
