Where do I buy a used axle? Any good used places for this stuff?
I am in the process of putting in a new rear axle on my 82. I really want 3.42 posi, but its so hard to find one for a good price.. anyone know where I can find just the axle without the gears? that way I can buy my own gears and put them in myself, or do you know where I can get a 3.42 Drum/disc posi setup? Who carries this kind of stuff, where is my best bet to try? please help guys, I would really like this..

Are you wanting a whole rearend or are you just wanting axles? I have 26 spline axles if you need them. Also I have an axle housing if you need it. That would probably be too much to ship but I could check.

I've heard some junkyards have axles... that might be a good spot to look.
I know, I know.. just kidding.. hey, you asked! Look for an 89 2.8 V6 F-body with an automatic. They have the 3.42/open/drum, and they have the 28 spline axleshafts. That means you could put in an SLP take-off posi for $100. (Otherwise, an 85-88 3.42/open/drum axle means you get 26 spline axleshafts, and would have to buy the 28 splines from another yard.)
Oh- and the gears inside a V6 axle are the same strength as those inside a V8 axle. For that matter, even the gears inside the 2.5l I-4 82-85 f-bodies were just as strong as V8 ones.
