I have a storage lift was wondering if I could just raise the car and replace the old Lower control arm with new ones, can I keep the load on the car while doing this or do I need to take the load off the suspension to replace them, sorry if it’s been answered before can only find videos of guys doing it with a Jack

 

definitely need the weight off the front end.

I have found it easier to do the job on jack stands myself.

it is still easier with jack stands, you can put a floor jack under the rear end to adjust the position to take pressure off the bolts.

I bent one on my car a long time ago. I just jacked up the one side and put a jack stand under the car. then put the floor jack under the axle tube.

It is easier to get to the bolts with the wheel off.

 

Yeah, just put a floor jack under the axle and pull the wheel and drop the control arm off. Nothing dramatic will happen as long as torque arm is still attached.

That side of the axle might move a bit rearward making it difficult to get the bolts aligned again. Either move it by hand (if you're strong enough), or put a drift rod thru the holes and use it to align things, or use a ratchet strap to pull the axle forward if needed. Sometimes it's really easy, sometimes not. Using floor jack to fiddle with axle height can find that sweet spot where things align.

 

This sounds like a painful accident waiting to happen...
