Track bar brace

How strong are the stock track bar braces? I’m doing a rebuild on my rear suspension. 84 Z28…not going to push more than 400HP…ever. New UMI track bar on the way so will this stock brace be ok to reuse? Structurally it looks fine, a bit dirty, worried about its durability after so many years. What I can’t see

Re: Track bar brace

Stock is fine. Pretty much takes a car on race tires to bend one while cornering.

Re: Track bar brace

It's not a "track bar brace" in reality, no matter its name. It's a body stiffener. Holds the left and right sides of the chassis a constant distance apart. Ideally, the "right" distance. No more or less than that.

Only real reason to change it (at least, for most of us who don't do our best-known work on Sunday afternoons among coworkers named Busch, Larson, Power, Verstappen, etc.) is if you need clearance, like for a larger exhaust I-pipe or something along those lines.

"400 HP" is irrelevant. People with 1000 HP haven't needed to change it, just for that. It has to do more with cornering (in the abstract), and of course, exhaust clearance.

Re: Track bar brace

It’s cleaned up, repainted and going right back in.
