why would stock tire size rub fenderwell
Ok, I cant say if the old tires had this problem i never checked, but i recently replaces my fron tires on my 91. I have the 16x8 Z28 rims and i noticed that the tires rub on the fenderwell when the wheel is cut all the way. I know i am in need of an alignment, but i dont think thats the problem. The suspension is pretty worn, and i will be rebuilding the front end real soon. What should I look for, or where should i look. TIA guys.

i assume your suspension is all stock. the clearance is really tight even when the car is new, wear on the suspension can change things. also, the brand of tire you bought might be slightly different than the factory tire even though the tire is the same size. if it's not too much rubbing, i wouldn't worry about it, just remember not to turn the wheels so far.

You might have mixed up the front and rear wheels. They are different offsets and are marked.
I actually have the same problem but with the passenger side tire, and fender well. I know my stock set up is worn to hell, and i can definitely use an alignment. I know its not a mix up of the rims, i'm thinkin its just the worn out stock suspension set up, or the car was in an accident of some sort which misaligned that side.
i have that problem too on the driver side right in the fender brace and has rubbed through the plastic and taken the paint off. i measured the old tire size with the new and had a 1/2 bigger tire on the replacement. it doesn't hurt anything. just don't turn the wheel to the stop and it won't rub. i also have a question. how do you stop the tires from doing the grab/slip thing when turning with the steering wheel at the full left or right stop? anybody know how to cure this? it's not bad just anoying when i back outta my parking spot. living in apartments and having no garage sux.
i forgot to add that my wheels are on the right way front/front and rear/rear.

Well i dont face that problem much having the tire slide, but its happened and its annoying. Like i said i know my problem is the stock front end suspension which feels like its falling apart with every bump i hit. Thats key for me to replace once i get some money
Check your front Bearings and Spindles..... I can't stress this enough.
The SAME thing happened to me when I bought my car, no one seemed to think it was a big deal at the local shops, but one of the better, more reputable shops took a deeper look.
As it turned out, my Bearings had exploded.... and eaten away at the spindle. Though I really noticed nothing more than the tires rubbing the wheel wells what was really hapening was that the bearing's shrapnel had gouged out a groove and was allowing for a miniscule amout of movement, that was amplified when the wheel turned. So after replacing the Bearings and spindles, I have NO more rubbing, and a perfect set of tires.
Hope this will help you out some.
