suspension questions
hey guys i put a steering box out of a 1988 formula with the performance suspension, is this box any good over a 1986 sport coupe box? also the steering wheel has some play in it before it turns the wheels what would cause this?

The only difference I know of would be the ratio. This would affect the number of turns to lock. Valving can differ as well effecting steering effort.
I believe the standard ratio is something like 16 to 1 and the performance oriented is more like 12 to 1.
You may be able to reduce or eliminate the play in your box by adjusting it. There is a nut on the top that adjusts the load on the shaft Try searching old posts for steering box adjustment. I am horrible at describing the process but I've seen it on here before. If not, I'll try and write it up.
Also check the rag joint (can't remember the technical term) on your steering shaft. After a few years, the rubber disk tends to decay and the joint gets loose. A replacement disk for the rag joint is only about $10. The hardest part is drilling out the rivets holding the other one in.
I've done both of these. My steering was a bit loose and after this, just like new.
