why does my car hate me???

i have replaced the entire brake system. at first the pedal was spongy but then after i bled the hell out of it the brake pedal was firm and high. now about a week later the pedal is low and extremely spongy. it can't stop worth a damn. i am gonna look for leaks tomorrow but i suspect none. i think the combo valve(88 1LE) i got is not the right one. people say it will "work" but i think that maybe the source of my problems. well i still don't know why the pedal would get so spongy after a week of driving and no air in the system. (i bled the system for about 2-3hours straight) i wanted to be thorough. well maybe some can shed some light on what might have happened. thanks in advanced.

have you tried to bench bleed the master cylinder? You might have air in the master cylinder itself.

i have bench bled it when it was new and before i installed it. but it wouldn't hurt to double check for air in the master? wouldn't it?

Yeah, it coundn't hurt to bleed it again. You said that you have inspected the brake system for leaks, did you notice any rust on the lines? my camaro had a pinhole leak near the rear junction block because of rust. I just replaced that section of line and it was alright.

Either that...or <gasp> take it to a garage and have someone with the right tools and know-how take a crack at it.

We all get in over our heads occasionally, no shame in calling in the cavalry.
