It's prefered to do it that way if you don't have a manual valve body. You want the tranny to upshift to build wheel speed. Just don't over rev it. Watch the tach and speedo. About 60 mph or 5000 rpm for 5-10 seconds is all thats required.
Thanks for the replies. What is the safest way for my tranny to let out of the burnout? Do I release the lock and continue to burn out and slowly let off the gas, or how do you do it? Also, when I burnout normally, my car has a tendency to fish tail (rear end sways A LOT). Will it do this at all with the line lock? Or will it be easy to control? Thanks again.

Just what you said. Release the line lock then continue the burnout slowly letting off the gas. It's that sudden decelleration by just lifting off the gas quickly or when hitting dry pavement that will cause damage to the tranny. Being in high gear after the burnout reduces the chance of damage in case you have to lift quickly.
When it fish tails there's not much you can do except lift before going sideways. I've noticed my car walks to the left in the right hand lane of the local track during a burnout but stays dead straight in the left water box.
