BILSTIEN Question!!!
Hey, i was at my local Ecology Wrecking Yard today and happened to find a 1LE IROC :hail: (unfortunately the rear end and the front breaks were already gone ..
) Anyways, I was poking around the car and found that the car had a set of Bilstiens in the rear...
. After ripping all the junk and carpet out of my way, i yanked off the shocks. This was pretty easy considering the fact that the rear end and LCAs were already gone :lala:... After getting home with them and only spending 4.99 for each of them!!!
I washed them up and realized that they say DELCO on the bottom of them... The shocks are yellow and blue just like any other bilstein, but at the bottom of the shock it has a sticker that says DELCO...What are these shocks i have? Are they a cheap rip off of Bilsteins? or does it merley mean that its a GM application? HELP i want to know if i found a gold mine out of this car (also has MINT glass T-tops to replace my plastic ones) Anyone know what that DELCO means on the BILSTEIN shocks? There is no doubt they are bilstien...One last thing...To test if the shocks were good or not, i leaned on them to compress them(wasnt easy) and let go, and the shock slowly extended back out...does this mean they are good? There was no hissing noise and the shaft is shiny (from the oil i guess)

IROC's came stock with Bilstein shocks in the rear. I made the same discovery on my 88. They don't have the same rebound rate as the aftermarket ones. Not do they have the lifetime warranty. If they are good, give them a try. Otherwise a new set of Bilsteins is a sound investment.

Nope, it was a Hard-Top
It was a Hardtop, but since it was in the GM and particularly the Camaro section, there was a set of glass T-tops inside the car...Im guessing someone was maybe hiding them...But i checked the RPO codes and it was there big as life... "1LE" Thats what made me look under the car rather than in it once i saw that. With the exception of that car, there are only 81, 82 and some 84s or so, usually V-6s and stuff i wouldnt take a 2nd look at. I also found a nice GTA with the Digital Dash intact. But anyways, your right, if it was a T-TOP car, it wasnt 1LE, but it was a hard-top
