I can't figure it out... (Question about my Struts)

Ok, Here is a problem that I can NOT figure out. After installing my KYB GR2 Struts in the front of my car... there is a click/snap noise that sounds like my Strut is moving around. PLUS it makes it real annoying to drive the car. At first I was under the impression the bolts were loose where the strut bolts into the steering assembly, and after tightening those it feels better and doesn't make any sound, but a few miles later after braking a few dozen times *PoP* it sounds loose again. But last night I pulled the wheel off and tightened it up with Red Locktight, I tourqued her down REAL tight (Trust me, I tourqe everything to death, this one didn't break though, it went in and did what it was supposed to do... tighten) and today on my way here to work, it started poping again..... WHAT THE HELL? I've also thought that it could be the Strut Tower.... but that seems fine.

I'm at a loss guys, I've got no more Ideas....what else can it be??

Could it be a faulty strut?

Don't over-torque...

How is the upper strut nut doing? Did you have an alignment done yet? Other than that, I'd suspect a bad strut, too.

'84 Z28? Got a 5-speed? Does it pop it's worst around corners?

Did you check the bearings in the top mount, they should move freely, not bind and not have play in them. They are often overlooked.

Top bearing in the upper isolation mount/alignment adjustment plate was my first thought also. They are like $80.00 each to replace.

Geez, $80?!? Man, I hope mine never fail. Is that for "installation" cost or just the cost of the bearing?
