Bad Shocks ?????

Forgive me for being dumb, but is there anyway to test if the rear shocks need replacing? When I push down on the rear end, I hear a pretty loud noise. If it is not the shocks what could it be?

Thanks So Much in Advance

Could be that or missing/bad bushings.
Get under the car and see if you can find where the noise is coming from.
Might even be good to get a friend to push on it while you're underneath.

Are the shocks old?

Shocks usually don't make noise when they go bad, unless they break or come loose from the mount. A noise like that could be alot of different problems. The first thing I would do is get under the car, shake everything trying to find something loose, and look around for something hanging or broken.

Yeah, The shocks are really old. I am going to crawl under the car tonight and get my roommate to push down on the car. I hope that I can find the problem. Would getting a good lube job help?

Usually true noise-wise.
I had some shocks go bad on my beretta. The top dust cover rusted through and would make noise anytime it moved.

But like we've said.....get under there and check things out.
