Is the 36 mm sway bar the only one that is hollow?

I have one that I think is 36. I just picked up a pair of vice grips and set the size around the bar and measured it and it showed 36. It is hollow. I just want to make sure my measurements are right. By the way it is off of an 87 IROC. I didnt think that the 87s had the 36?

If it is 36mm then it is a hollow bar, but like you said, i didnt think they came on 87 IROCs, i keep seeing everybody say that they only came on 89-92 1LE camaros and 86-92 WS6 firebirds.

well, I just remeasured it and the one on my car. I come up with 34 for the one on my car, and 36 on this one. It is definately hollow though.

maybe the person that owned the 87 put the 36mm bar on. I just recently put some 1LE sway bars on my 90RS (36mm/24mm)

Yes irocs came with the large sway bars all years. My 87 has 36mm up front.

I remember seeing somewhere that there was a hollow 34mm bar too.

IROCs didn't come with the 36/24 combo for all years. My 85 had a 34 before I swapped it out. If I'm not incorrect, Hollander says Camaros, 88-92 and Firebirds, 86-92 (though we all know that GM does some strange things).

There are several sizes. I know 21 23 and 24 exist. 24 is the good size.

I have an '87 IROC with a stock 36mm hollow front and 24mm solid rear....they have never been changed and came that way. So yes they were available in the '87's!

I am pretty sure that the ones off of this 87 IROC were also stock and they measure out to be 36 so maybe it was camaros except IROCs didnt get this size until later.

ok i did the best i could to measure my rear sway bar it looks to me 22mm. so i am guessin it is either a 21 or 23. my question is 1mm is so tiny i don't see how a 1 or 2mm difference in swaybar size can really make that big of a difference. i mean we are talkin tiny here realllly tiny. i mean hell if i painted my sway bar that would be 2 or 3 mm right there lol. so could sum1 please tell me how this effects driving at all. also when u guys go to the junk yard and get these bigger sway bars how are u identifing them? from the ws6 badge in the car? cause when sumthin has been sittin it pretty hard to measure threw rust. thanks guys

2mm is about 5/64", enough that a little paint or surface rust won't make much difference.

You could always bring a wire brush and some sandpaper to the junkyard.. that way you could remove all rust & paint if you want.

I have a set of new 34 mm bushings. How much of a gap should there be between where it touches if I squeeze it tight around it. I wondered if I might be able to tell for sure what it is by the size of the gap.

Thanks

I have the hollow 36 and solid 24 rear on my 89 IROC vert. It does have RPO FE2 which might make a difference. And I cant find poly bushings to fit the 36mm bar. Agghh

My 32mm Front bar is Hollow. It Came off a 85 Z28.

I would say I need more front Bar.. But the front Pushes hard Now as it is, I can only imagine.

I belive its Global west who Carries the 36mm Bushings, Do a search On here You will find it, they are out there.

The Bushings themselves should be extremely tight around the bar. They should Snap around it perfectly, No space between the bar and the bushing, and no gap between the two halfs of the bushing either.
