help with shock install

I just installed my KYB shocks and struts. At first everything was good. Now I get this squeeking noise coming when the car bounces or turns hard coming from the back. I assume its coming from the shock. I already threw away the installation directions, but I thought I got it right, can you look at my picture and tell me if I installed these correctly.

Maybe I didnt tighten them enough?? well look at this pic please

the main thing I was not sure about that might be wrong was if both nuts go on top? What do you think?

Mike,

That way is correct, the top nut is a jam/lock nut to keep the other from loosening.

Did you tighten the first nut just to where the rubber is the same diameter as the curved washer? That's all it needs to be tightened. Then hold the lower nut while tightening, just firm, the upper nut. A little bit of silicone grease on the rubber might lessen the squeaking sound until it's broken in.

Did you check to make sure the lower thru bolt was correctly attached to the mount? I had to recheck mine before I was through.

Give it a few days and see if the squeaking doesn't go away.

Hope this helps,
P.

I just went back and checked, the rubber is not the same diameter of the washer. I got it pretty tight, but then the top of the bolt rounded off a lot so I stopped. It is pretty close to the same though. I used an adjustable wrench on it since I did not have the right size wrench. I guess that was my first mistake. Would vise grips be the answer?
