Rear drum to disc conversion?
Rear drum to disc conversion?
Hey everyone, I have a 92 rs and I want to put my rear end out of my 87 Iroc under it. The 87 rear end has disc brakes. do I need to change the proportioning valve from th 87 iroc to my car or does it matter. Also can I use the same brake lines on the 92 car.
Any tips would be greatly appriciated.
Oh yea does anyone make cross drilled rotors for the rear disc brakes, I already have some for the front but the company that I bought them from does not make the rear.

No you don't need to change the P.V. You need the brake lines and emergency brake cables that come with the rear end. You will need to buy a new (or used) parking brake pull-up handle assembly. The pre 89 disc rear end requires the parking brake with a center adjustment rod which came on pre 89 cars (which yours lacks). Yes drilled rotors are available for the rear. I have PowerStop drilled rotors by AutoSpecialty. There is no performance improvment for drilled rotors over solid though. If you buy new e-brake cables (as I did) you may need to cut off the integral spring that is on the end of the cables. E-mail me and I can describe how to cut it off. http://www.autospecialty.com/ Good luck, Lon.

Why do the springs have to be cut off? I bought new cables and they have been giving me trouble since day one, parking brake doesn't work AT ALL.
