Can the injectors be cleaned by soaking in carb cleaner?

I failed emmissions due to high NOx, I searched at found to look at the catalytic convertor and the egr. Fair enough, the shop is also recommending an intake cleaning, radiator flush, radiator hose replacement, serpentine belt replacement etc. to go along with the new brake lines that it needs(I didn't think these would pass). Well, here in PA, you have 30 days to make the needed repairs, and they have to inspect it again for the money you already paid. It kind of seems like a racket to me, that the shop that does the kind of work that you might need done after failing an inspection is the one to do the inspection...hmmm. Anyway, it gives me some more time to get thinks right. I read somewhere about a part number for a 170degree thermostat, does anyone have that handy?

Thanks all,
Dan

Sorry I don't have the part# handy, but just remember... the colder your engine runs, the harder it will be to pass emissions.

you radiator, serp belt and almost all of that other stuff has lkittle /nothing to do with emissions. also, any stat can get through emissions and as soon as the engien is oput of warm up loop it shoudl be able to pass emissions.
if the cat is dead you will either smell rotten eggs in your exhaust(that measn the catalyst itself is dead) or you will here a hissing sound coming from the exhaust(which means the catalst melted adn plugged up teh works a bit).
the egr is a pretty common problem, the combination of exhaust temps and carbon deposits will clog or make them stick. they are easy to replace anbd you can just go to the parts store and get one and install it your self, i think they only cost like 25bucks and it only take liek 15mins to swap it.

Yeah, but some of the stricter states aren't only concerned with emissions. Headlights have nothing to do with emissions, but a busted headlight can get you failed. Glad I live in FL.

do u have an open element? if so that could be the hissing sound. if not, check for vacuum leaks somewhere...a hose cracked, disconnected, missing, or something along those lines
