How to Identify my heads???

I'm trying to figure out which heads or on my car it is a 350 with 305 heads the original motor was an LO3 according to the VIN but he also told me it was a HO 305 he also said since its a HO 305 if i want to build a motor start with that block i'll stick with a 350
so where are the number to look for back of head?? remove valve cover and look?? thanks:lala:

on my friends '68 camaro the 327s heads had the number under the valve cover. I don't know if our newer chevys are different.

yea...the casting numbers aer under the valve covers. i am actually changine rocker arms again tomorrow so i will write down my casting numbers...they are stock heads just ported, valve job, new valves, etc. but same casting as from the factory.

I remember seeing a 043 or 430 something while I was in there am i right or wrong
I'm also disappointed I have 2.73 gears but it is posi already knew that and i have custom seats with camaro in them and they have to bad rips in the drivers seat

The older 305 heads were 416's.

Try here for casting numbers. Look under chevy head casting numbers, at the bottom of the page.

It's the same location for the casting #'s as the older V8s

"416" 78-86 305
"187" 88-95 TBI
"081" 87-92 305
