speed limiter screwed up
speed limiter screwed up
ok as some of you might have read the other day my rear-end blew soo... i got to the shop that was doing the swap for me... turn out the 3:73s they had were 4:11's with posi... so thats what i got.. i like them A LOT my car actually feel like a sports car now it churps hard into second and its really easy to make the rear swing out!!! ha ha ok now to the crappy part with the new steep gears my speedometer is way off and once i get to like mabey 80-90 mph the speed limiter shuts me down... very bad... i need a way to fix this fast because every time i need to pass somone it shuts off on me.... please help guys
PS- Is there a way to get rid of this speedlimiter that does not hurt the motor and how much will it cost me
PSS- and i don't think i could get to the end of the quarter before it shut me down

i feel ur pain..mine does the same thing. i gotta figure out how to fix this...i heard u gotta change the vss gears. also, there is a tech article on removing the speed limiter but i think i screwed that up because it didnt work.
go here it should help https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/unlimited.shtml
If your car is an 89 it should have an electronic speedometer. You just have to wire in a calibration box to adjust for the gears. I got mine from Jegs, it was made by Cyberdyne. About $100. I think SLP also sells one. Also, I unhooked my speedometer until I had time to install the box (disconnect the plug from the tranny, underneath the car). No speedometer, no speed limiter!
PS-I loved the way mine chirped in second under hard acceleration, so I did it all the time. But, this caused my tranny to give out after a couple months. Oh well, gave me an excuse to switch to a 5-speed.
