cant post a poll so........
for some reason the moderators took away all my options because i made a stink about them erasing my avatar so therefore i cant post a poll so i have to do it this way..........right now i have an edelbrock perfromer tbi with the stock 1 11/16 tbi........in the future im going to be putting vortech heads and a vortech intake however i cant afford to do it at this time since im trying to buy a house...........i was going to get the bored out high flow 1 11/16 tb from turbo city............my question is this.....should i wait till i do the motor work and get the holley 2" bore tbi or will the 1 11/16 high flow be enough for later on...........you can make the answers short, and yes i have read the posts on a search i just want to see what comes up here
1 11/16 high flow
2" holley
1 11/16 high flow
2" holley
I am going to use the stock TBI with the ultimate TBI mods and 350 injectors. My setup can be found herehttps://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=101405
I am not sure what Turbo city does to the TB, but I think they just do the ultimate TBI mods for you.
My vote is for the stock TBI with the ultimate TBI mods and upgraded injectors. I think this is what DM91RS has done and he is running vortec heads.

yea they bore it out and shave the throttle shaft, i allready have flow matched injectors,a 1/2" spacer, the injector spacer,afpr......take a look here the pic shows you the difference............http://www.turbocity.com/TBIPowerMain.htm
Yeah, it looks they do a good job, but for $229.00 + $200 core, I think I would rather spend a few hours with a dremel doing it myself.
If you I were you I would ethier do the Ultimate TBI mods or wait until you can do the heads and buy the Holley unit.

does anyone have a pic of a job they did themselves? can all of what turbo city does be done with a hand dremmel? im pretty good with tools i just wasnt sure if i could achieve the same results
The Holley will take you further because of it's unported flow rate. The Turbo City one is nice if you want to keep you're 1 11/16 manifold. I would get the Holley if you want big HP #'s.
Just wait dont jump into anything. Everything will fall into place later.

i think what ill do is buy a dremel and just do the one i have now myself then ill buy the holley when i do everything later on......my only question is i assume when you shave down the throttle shaft you also shave down the throttle screws or pins that hold the plates onto the shaft........doesnt this weaken the plate to shaft connection? any chance of the plates coming off?

mmmmmmmm has anyone actually done this? it looks to me like you have to remove the stock throttle plates and make bigger ones..........

I have the Turbo City throttle Body on my 350.
It works well, and I'm making over 300HP at the flywheel, but the $200 core is awfully high. After I got mine the note that came with it said they had to have the core in 10 days or they won't give me my $200 back! Mad scramble through local yards to get a core, so I could keep my original (wanted to keep my old one because I knew it had no leaks).
Also, the Turbo City throttle body was very warped on the bottom.I had a horrendous vacuum leak after I first installed it.
Only took a few minutes with a block of aluminum and a piece of sandpaper to flatten it out, but for that kind of $ you shouldn't need to repair it!
Reason I went with Turbo City instead of Holley was that I'd heard that the GM Injectors are more tolerant of fuel pressure increase and last longer, but I've heard that Holley has corrected those problems on their latest TB's.
Some have modified their Holley Throttle Bodies to accept GM Injector Pods, and this seems like a viable alternative as well.
If I had to do it over, I'd go with the Holley Unit and if the Injectors gave me trouble I'd just mod the TB to accept the GM Pod.

Yeah, they have larger plates, a ground thinner shaft and tiny buttonhead screws. They also mill off the material at the top of the TB and polish the enlarged bores.http://www.turbocity.com/TBIPowerMain.htm

The polishing is easy enough and so is milling off the material on top. Both of those could be done with a dremel.
Not sure how to go about actually increasing the diameter of the bores. I've seen some discussion about throttle plates and I know they're available from a couple different sources.
I think it'd be best to use a mill and the proper size bit on the throttle bores.
Anybody else have any input on this?

yeah when ya look at the picture of theirs it seemed to me that youd have to remove alot of material to get the bores that big, thats what i mean, i dont think you can get em that big with a dremel

You can't, the bores need to be milled and new throttle plates made. Anyone with basic metal working skills and access to a metal shop can do this...

well then heres the next problem.............i have an edelbrock tbi intake with 1 11/16 bores........wouldnt the intake need to be dilled out as well?

I'm using the Edelbrock TBI intake as well.
Both Edelbrock and Turbo City recommend only chamfering the bores of the intake...not boring it out.Between this and the thickness of the gasket, it should be enough.
I did this and it clears fine. Now if you get the really big Holley TB,I think you'd have to bore it out, or go to the Holley TBI intake or a four-barrel carb intake with a TB Adapter.

by chamfering you mean using a dremel and just angling the edges of the hole? to make like a funnel shape instead of just a clean cut circle correct?

Yep, that'll work.I used a chamfering bit on mine, and used the mill at work, but you only need to take about 1/16" of material off.
I would think boring it all the way through would be better, but like I said before, they recommended against it.
