No gain in top speed after LT1 Cam?
Ok, I've had my lt1 cam in for about a week now, and I've finally gotten around to checkin out my top speed. Before the swap, I could easily do 115-120, but this morning when I went for another top speed run, I made it to 120 after some slow acceleration past 100, then I COULD have kept going, but it was takin a while to gain more speed. What can I do? Like I said, I just did the LT1 cam swap, I put in an open element filter and all, but I just can't gain too much more top speed! BTW, I've got 2.73s if anyone wants to know, and if there's anything else you need to know ask- I just want to know how to get more top end so I can take out those damn ricers a little easier (I race alot on the highway)
Thanks guys,
Nate

not to be an *** or anything but why do you want over 120? i would rather have acceleration then have top speed... real men race from street lights with no chance to hurt others..
i am not being an *** but simply speaking from experience. the drag race scene in phoenix has exploded since our fav. movie came out..
i raced on the freeway hit around 135.. speed was told from a friend.. i have no speedometer, he was going 130 i was pulling.. well i was racing another camaro and my friend couldnt hang.. i got cut off on the freeway and spun out accross 5 lanes of freeway gained control back of my car just before i hit the wall and barely hit the wall at 5 miles per hour right on the front end causing minimal damage.. i could've been dead man.. STAY AWAY FROM FREEWAY RACES.. 110 and up is just to fast for people to judge and get out of your way..
dont get me wrong i still street race just shut down sooner now..
:lala:
hey did you gain acceleration with the swap??? i have the cam waiting to go in..

real men race from street lights with no chance to hurt others.
A few spectators died last fall because some a$$hole lost control of his car and hit people. And now again just recently, some moron lost control in his camaro while street racing and killed himself and another spectator. Yeah, real men race from light to light.
Real men race at the drag strip where racing belongs. If you want to risk going to jail, loosing your life or taking someone eles life for a quick thrill, then be my guest. Not saying street racing isn't a f-cking blast, but its dangerous and not worth the risk. Last edited by 91Bird305; Apr 26, 2002 at 04:24 PM.

at higher loads(aka higher speeds) the need for fuel is increased, a stock chip doesn't have and an off the shelf chip is unlikely to have, the correct fuel curve for your engines new needs.
i don't know why you would bother racing on teh highway anyway, beyond the basic stupidity of running at high speeds on public roads thereis the fact that you aren't proving anything. any numb nut behind the wheel can hold down the gas peddle long enough to reach a high rate of speed.
anyone who is worth their metal or thinks their car actually has something should be willing to hit a track, even if it is a long drive to get to. there is no fakin it on the strip, there is a defined starting line, a defined finish line, and no way to fake when it is time to go. at teh end they give you a slip of paper that says who wins and who loses. you don't get that on the street.

I guess those other motorist are in no danger while u guys race from light to light and at the street scene, those people near the middle and end of the finish line aren't in any danger at all are they? Street racing is dangerous. If you really do street race then you know its dangerous and wouldn't be saying "real men race from light to light". I was one of these people awhile back until I realized how dangerous it is and how f-cked you could be if you lost control and killed someone. That is man-slaughter if you loose control of your car and kill a spectator. Go to jail for a very long time. Besides, there mostly inexperinced drivers out with mommie and daddies corvettes and don't know how to drive. Go to the drag strip where its legal and much safier and atleast you know the guy you line up against is gonna loose control and side swip you because this is only his 3rd time using a stick shift.

That was something i heard a long time ago as in race from a stop. your not going 120.. When i mean no others to hurt i meant late at night. i dont street race at all anymore if you would of looked and seen the story of what happened to me i havent street raced again...
i personally know 2 people that have went to jail recently for being stupid and street racing after i told them not to..
One hit a guy at midnight knocked him out of his shoes gave his girlfriend in the passenger seat a concusion with the guys arm that fell off. knocked his leg off which they didnt find until the next day.. then the next day the idiot go another speeding ticket..this happened in my small home town population 75000... sucks for him he was 18 when he got man slaughter..
not trying to be your mom but we dont want to see a thirdgen member dissappear...

I second the general mood on street racing. When I was street racing we had a spot that was about 2 miles away from the state line and it was a 4 lane highway with a huge median inbetween each direction. The place was so remote that you just had to wait for the occassional car to pass and then line 'em up. My friend showed me the spot and his dad would even go out there and race. His dad told me that they used to go out there and race when they were in high school. But after a while the import guys started showing up by the gang load and killed the spot. You could see traffic heading out there and by 11pm you'd see a huge caravan of flashing lights and ground effects coming out to the spot. Now everyone takes it to one of the busiest streets in the city. There have been fatalities and serious accidents. The worst part is that It happens every Sunday night. I miss that spot. I remember the first time I went out there, the street was painted. It had a starting line and a finish line. I remeber parking out there, and after a while (and a few beers) I heard this Chevelle roaring down the street. The brakes were so bad on this Chevelle that we just give this guy a rash of sh-t (he was my friends buddy). WE kept telling him that he needed a tree trunk with a chain around it so he could through it out the window. Some one made a comment that it sounded like he threw a stop sign with a chain on it out the window, and he was just waiting for it to hook on to something to drag him to a stop. Ahhh those were the days.... Back to street racing. It sucks its dangerous and if you dont believe me the wait for the day you smack someone from behind because you cant stop.

NJ SPEEDER: yes, I adjusted the timing, it's at 12* right now. As far as the fuel pressure, I'm still not sure what I need to run it at. At the moment my little tab is about 1/3 the way up to the top (1/3 the potential).
And yes, as previously stated, I am MAINLY using this top-speed thing as a reference. If you gain power your top speed should change too. My acceleration has had a big boost, but acceleration after 100 is pretty much the same.
I really don't race all that much. The only time I do high speed shoot-outs is coming home from school when me and some buds will just race or something. The majority of racing I do is in town late at night (1 am) so there's VERY little cars out.
But yeah, any help you guys can still give would help
