Nitrous on 305 TBI? What to modifiy first?
I have a 1992 camaro 305 TBI and am thinking about installing a Nitrous kit #5153 for TBI cars. I'm thinking about running a 125-150 Shot. I was wondering if this would work with the following modifications that i have done to the car with 130K. Please let me know.

Hooker Headers, Removed smog equipment, 160 Thermostat, Custom Straight pipes (no mufflers), Open Element with K&N(14x3), Hypertech performence chip, Performence Spark Plug Wires, Heater Core by-pass

Please let me know if it is nessacary to adjust the timing or what i need to do. Is this enough modifications to run this set-up. Let me know i don't want to blow up my engine.

Thanks

leave teh timing at stock settings and you shoudl be good to go. i hope you have somehting intot eh suspension, 125-150 is a big hit adn you are gonna spin big time if you aren't ready in that department. with good hook you can go really fast, camaroracer1992 went 13.18 with basically teh same set up plus an edelbrock intake.

I have the Nitrous Oxide Systems kit #5153 on my 92 camaro. I have a full exhaust, and an ignition box. My kit is jetted for 100hp shots and I have not had a problem yet. The ignition box that I have (MSD Digital 6) allows me to pull timing when on the juice. That is the only thing I would recommend for you. Just make sure your ignition and fuel systems are in good working order and you will be alright.

As for FLYNLOW, I'd recommend using the stock chip if you still have it. The hypertech one may advance timing too much as RPM increases.
un4givin89 do you run NITROUS on your car? Have you done any research into the subject, or did you just spout out the first thing that came to mind? In all the reading I have done I have never came across a car blowing a head off from a 100hp shot. If you actually do some reading you will find that tons of 305s have been running nitrous, some using 150hp shots and no one has blown a head off. This is one thing that annoys me (besides the people that refer to nitrous as NOS), people saying that nitrous will destroy an engine, no matter the size of the shot. The only people that have bad experiences with nitrous are those who cut corners on the install and those that put way more nitrous through their motor than the manufactures recommendation.
FLYNLOW92rs.. I am using the Msd digital 6 plus, Jegs part number 121-6520. It is a little pricey, but I like it.

nitrous usage has little if anything to do with what heads you are running. whether or not a head is going to blow a gasket or "pop" as many peiople say depends on how well it is held to teh block. our heads, just like any othe rsmall block chevy head, are very secure on teh block and being iron makes them even less of a liability. leave your timing at stock settings and you will be able to run nitrous for a long time without any problems.

I did replace to a new fuel pump about 7 months ago, it's not a performence one but at least i know it's running well. I'm going to get some new spark plug wires and replace the Hypertech chip back with the stock one before i run the nitrous.

I was also thinking about mounting dual 10 lb bottles in the back, ut only opening one at a time, so that way i make less trips to get them refilled.

How much should i expect it to cost to have the system installed, i don't trust myself to do it. I don't want to get ripped off, a ballpark figure on how much it is to install would be great.

Thanks for all the help.

besides the people that refer to nitrous as NOS
:sillylol: I hate that too. "Hey Natzke, when are you gonna put in your NAWS!" I always have to say. "Its nitrous, not naws."Yeah, get the MSD Digital 6A or if u don't want to spend that type of money, get a MSD Timing Control Module like I got and just adjust ur timing when your gonna run nitrous and turn it back or advance it more when ur not gonna run nitrous. I think its only 150-75 bucks. Isn't the Digital a butt load of money? I may be wrong. Also, u may want to look into a Fuel Pressure Saftey switch. If your fuel pressure goes below the normal pressure it will shut down everything so you don't run lean when spraying, which is VERY important.
Yeah the Digital 6 is fairly expensive, has a lot of nice features though.
FLYNLOW92rs.. Nitrous bottles cost around $250 each, I would just go with the one (although 2 would look pretty sweet
). I think the speed shop I talked to about nitrous kits said they charge like $300 for the install. I say just install it yourself. Its pretty easy and the install book that comes with the kit outlines very well. It took me around 5 hours.

Believe it or not, i found a ***** that was selling his bottle for $40, i purchased i and it worked fine so i'm gonna mount both, since 1 does come with the kit. Polished bottles are a waste of money. I think i might try MOST of the install myself and have a shop finish off the rest, so i can save some money.

JR305i currently have a Autometer Air/Fuel ratio gauge, so i'll easily be able to tell if the car is running Lean while on nitrous. Regardless i found the safety switch is only $40 in summit so i'll probally purchase it anyway.

How much does nitrous cost to re-fill?

Thanks

a guy that races at e-town runs a pair of 20lbs composit bottles on his car with a plate stage adn a fogger stage all on a progressive controller.
that is the way to fly
i think teh bottles are like 250 a piece, progressive controller is 700+, and teh systems are 500 each
if anyoen will lend(read as give) me the money i am willing to see how a 305 will run on a 2 stage 600hp progressive shot

I must have been looking at polished bottles then.
I would not rely on an Air/fuel gage, because by the time you find out that it is running lean it’s too late. The safest way I know of is to run the jetting recommended by the kit manufacturer. After the run pull some of your plugs to see if you are rich, and then move down one step on the fuel jetting. Just keep doing this until you reach the correct Air/fuel ratio.
I pay ~$30 for a refill.
