ok guys a little help on this one
OK I have a 350 TBI, which is better for air flow... open element with the rubber removed from the rear of the hood, or a dual snorkel?

im goin with the open emement with the rubber removed..sounds sweet when u step on it and hear the hiss of the air cleaner..although i did see water spots all over the chrome after the rain!
i bet two cars being equal in every way
an open element would win in quarter
if both were allowed to heat up till fan comes on i think it might go the other way
if both cars are cruising and in last gear and both punched i'll go with open element
i walked away from a formula doing a stomp on gas at cruising speeds...it didnt have the go fast parts(2.73's,twig cam, but it was a tpi,88)and i think i have the open element to thank for that
but this is an age old debate
i like my open element
but am actually thinking of doing the formula hood
fresh air mod,anybody done this????

depends on the motor...
if you NEED the air flow, an open element will be the way to go. you have a 350, and i am assuming that it is a little more geared towards performance, so you will probably be in this category.
now, if you have a pretty stockish engine, you wont need the added air flow, so either way you will be ok.
definitely take off the hood weatherstripping though.

teh thing to remeber is that all differences in air temp/density can be negated by a proportionally greater volume.
the example with our cars is that teh small tubing size and turbulance from all the little ridges in teh tubing allows enough less total air to be drawn by teh engine that an open element, even though the air is clearly warmer, will allow for more air to be drawn.

Thanks guys, keep the opinions comeing right now I think the dual snorkel would look better but the open element is the way to go... I think, maybe someday ill get the ram air hood I want too and that open element will get some cold air....someday...
Unless you got plenty of extra cash, go open element. If you get a dual snorkle set up, plan on $100 or more! I cant justify that fer like 5-10 hp...
EDIT: that estimate on hp gain is high - IMO
