i have a 89 RS with a 305 in it, and i idle at 500 at a light, what does other people idle at, and whats the matter with it

 

about 750rpm in gear for me...1k in park or nuetral if your set on bumping it up alittle you can adjust it with a small star bit thingy...look at where your throttle bracket is. right in the front of the TBI there is alittle screw

 

My Haynes manual says that an auto is supposed to idle at 450 in drive. Out of gear I'd say 750. Mine changes, depending on it's "mood". Usually if I've beening running for a while and I get to a red light it will idle between 600 to 700, then it will drop on down after a little bit.

Edit: Another thing is the tach isn't always dead on.
