thinking of going with 454/4L80E tbi...
that would be a sweet deal. a local guy has a 454SS truck that ran a 15.4 at 87mph. that is pretty strong when you consider that the motor is dead stock in a 5000lbs truck. only mods he has are an open element(14x5
), cat back, and 4.10 gears(3.73's were stock).
if you can do a little work to it while it is out you would really be flyin. edelbrock makes a big block performer tbi, any number of companies make good heads, a mild cam, and a full exhaust. all the regular tunign tricks for tbi apply exactly the same.

i am thinkin it is time for some serious gears
use all 4 in the quarter adn have it be killer consistant since you can just use an electronic over drive controller from a 4L60E.
hehe
what is the over drive in teh 4l80?

The 4L80E trans is set up like the 4L60E but needs a stand alone controller to be used in a none comp (pcm) vehicle. It is as strong as the TH400 and also heavier. It would work well behined the big block but might not be a good trade off in a camaro behined a small block. As far as the OD I think it is the same as the 4L60 .70/1 .

4L80e is a TH400 with overdrive, same ratio's (2.48, 1.48, 1.00) and with a .75 overdrive. I believe it's just slightly larger in size than the 200r4 and it requires a shorter driveshaft because it's the longest tranny GM has, not sure if you can swap tail-shafts or not.
Too bad they're so expensive.

Damn I'm wrong, I always get the 3L80 and 4L80 goofed up but why would I? (3-4) Oh well, I believe the tailshafts can be swapped and they did come with quite a few different tailhousings. The 4L80E is 3 inches longer than the 400, so you'll need to contact someone like Denny's Driveshafts. The Th200-4r is a lot smaller and tons lighter than the 4L80E. The Th200-4r is smaller and lighter than the TH700-r4.
