fuel pressure dropping

for some reason my fuel pressure drops the longer the car runs.
Im thinking its the spring in the regulator heating up or something.
when I first start the car its at 17psi and after about 15 minutes it goes to around 12psi
perhaps it is a very moody leak.
any ideas?

Sounds like a pump problem. The regulator is such a simple piece, there's very little to go wrong in it. It could, conceivably, leak through the diaphram but that wouldn't change from start up. It would leak all the time.

If your fuel pressure gauge is a liquid filled and exposed to
the engine heat. . . It is very possible the gauge is reading
incorrectly. On a cold engine and not running wire the pump
to run all the time (red wire at relay to B+).

Then use a hair dryer on the gauge.

Under these circumstances I've seen them drop like a rock.

I didnt think it was heat because I have been running without a hood (cowl hood delivery got screwed up).
I will try the hairdryer thats a good idea.
