i have the opportunity to purchase 2 t/a's with the tbi set up-how do i know which engine it is? how can i tell if it is a 350 or 305?(the guy said he did a swap)also what is the difference between the two different tbi motors?(dont know their initials LG4 or whatever it is)how fast are u guys runnin in ur tbi cars-the last one i owned wasnt very quick-thinking bout doin a swap to tpi but havent decided yet-any help would be appreciated

A) Motor numbers:
305:
LG4: Carb
L69: HO Carb (with the famous 'dual snorkel' air cleaner)
LU?: CFI
L03: TBI
LB9: TPI

350:
L05: TBI (not available stock in F-bodies)
B??: TPI (early)
L98: TPI (later)
There was also a CFI and a carbed 350, but IIRC they were
(like the L05) not available stock on a 3rd-gen f-body (early
80's Corvette motors.), but could have been used for a motor
swap (although you'd know if it was CFI, because there'd be
2 TBIs under an oval-ish A/C)...

Most likely your RPO codes will be L03 or LG4 for both cars. As for how to tell a 350 from a 305, there was a thread on that a while ago... IIRC there are numbers on the block somewhere (if you can find them), and it's almost impossible to tell without those #s...

 

Yeah, it says on the actual engine, but i believe if i remember correctly, they were in the back of the engine, around the bell housing, but i dont remember for sure, but i just dropped a 350 in, and i remember seeing them.
