Basic power upgrade goal

I would like to over the next few years (college so its gotta be spaced out) gradually take my 305 tbi up to about 205hp (about the same as the 305tpi) but keep the tbi (simple system=reliable). I don't want to go much higher than this because of money, gas mileage, and reliablity not to mention diveability. This just seems like a nice goal since the motors are obviously capable of this kind of power. Give me some ideas. I know headers, complete exaust, ultimate tbi mods, intake. Aside from that i am not real sure on my best bets in terms of bang:buck ratio.

With a full exhaust and an open element you'd be right near your goal of 205 HP. If you're just looking for a little extra speed, do the exhaust and a posi 3.42/3.73 rear end for the extra pick-up.

Hmm cheaper overall than i thought it would be, not bad. I would love to have 300hp+ but i am gonna be in school for the next few years and the parts time and insurance costs after the first few speeding tickets wouldn't be worth it especially since its gonna be a daily driver. Full exaust and open element getting close sounds good.

I am simply going for 205hp or so at the engine since thats about what the 5.0tpi's had. If i can manage that i will be happy for awhile and like i said its a realistic goal for someone that is going to be going out of state for school.

Yea, if you're looking at 205 rwhp you're going to have to cam/intake it. Since you're on the same budget I am (we'll call it the college kid I love Ramen noodles budget) you can pick up an LT1 cam for $35-$40 and probably a used Edelbrock TBI intake for about $100-$120. One step further is heads, but once you do heads then it really starts to addup money wise.
