Tell me if this is wierd.

OK i have astock LO3 Camaro with about 78.000miles on it. Runs pretty good and getting better the more things i replace (all of the ignition bits, probably hit up fuel filter soon as well). Any way i have noticed that low down its not terribly quick, but once its (very very ruff guess since my tach is way out) 3500-4000rpm it takes off like a bat out of he!l and then starts to die down around 5500 (again a very ruff guess based on shift points). Anyway this doesn't really seem quite right to me. The exaust is stock minus what looks to be a cheap catback (not loud enough though). Is it a fule problem?, Possibly a clogged cat? Maybe an exaust leak? Or is the engine supposed to run like this.

i think your butt dyno needs to be recalibrated j/k
our cars will pull a bit in mid range stock, but not much up top thanks to the stock cam. you can improve top end breathing and power across the band with open element and ultimate mods, but you won't get teh stock cam to be worth much past 4500rpm on it's best day. the only reason auyto guys need to run it out further is the terrible 1-2 shift in the 700r4.

Sounds like a good injector cleaning...

clean out your injectors, i use 2+2 carb cleaner. That along with a new fuel filter will really help that thing out at WOT, and should pick that things idle and low end up too. As NJ said they really take off in mid range, so you will feel more pull between 40-65ish.
That is normal, the intakes on them are also a big flop, 'cause they wont allow enough air into the heads to get more that 4500rpm power out of it. So the cam sucks on top too.
Get headers, that'll really pull that low end up on it. Lets face it, low end is where the car will get stomped on the most so the extra exhaust flow will really liven it up. Stock exhaust is one of the biggest power robbers that our third gens have.

NEW FUEL FILTER, probably the single cheapest, most responsive thing that you can do to your car.
At least, after 110,000mi, it was for me!!

I knew about the top end problems and was just trying to see if this low end was just my butt dyno picking it up since the car is finnaly starting to run well or if it was a problem. SO i am off at somepoint in the next few weeks to get a fuel filter. Thanks.

Takeoff is gonna suck anyhow with 2.73s in the rear. Headers and 3.23s or 3.42s will give you a better launch (big increase on the butt dyno ) and you should still get pretty good highway mileage. Do the math in the equations section here for RPMs at 65mph.
