Installing Headers ...

I just picked up a set of SLP Headers, p/n 30004. They have 1 5/8 primaries and no A.I.R. or EGR. My question is, do you guys think I should get SLP's Header Installation kit, which I think runs around $80? If not, what would I need to purchase for the install.

I have both the headers and the y-pipe to put on.

Actually, lets make this a poll. If you vote against the install kit, please let me know what you think I would need.

Thanks - KZad

Well if the install kit comes with gaskets and bolts then I would say naw. I would get a set of copper exhaust gaskets from SCE and a set of Stage 8 locking bolts.

After looking further into things, I found out that the Install Kit I need is only $45. It comes with a number of things, Including detailed instructions on the install (a big plus).

Where is SCE? The advantage I have goin with SLP Kit is that I can drive the hr. there and pick it up. I only have another week to get this done.

Here's a pic of what the Install Kit includes ...

Looks like u will still need exhaust gaskets. If you go to the second site in my sig and go under exhaust you will see the part numbers at the bottom.

haha ....

Is there any advantage to the Copper Gaskets? Are they any better than the ones that I will be getting with the SLP Kit?

with copper gaskets u will never get an exhaust leak ever. Just put them on, run them for about 40 miles (do not rag on it) and then tighten them down one more time and ur set. Paper ones seem to get exhaust leaks later on.

ok heres my two cents.

dont get the kit. heres why, you can buy mr. gasket ultra seal exhaust gaskets at your local autozone or whatever. while your there you can pick up new headers bolts. detailed instructions.... you dont need them its a very easy intstall. BUT heres why you should get the kit. those headers dont have standard collector gaskets and bolts. the kit comes with the right ones, because autozone or whatever might not have them. so now that i think about it get the kit if NO local place has the correct collector gaskets and bolts.

brodyscamaro -

You are very correct.

I stopped at my exhaust shop yesterday to see what he thought. He told me that basically I could buy the Kit if I wanted too, but I would be wasting money. He told me to go to the local performance shop, pickup Mr. Gasket Ultra Seal Gaskets and some Header Bolts. He told me that he has the rest of the stuff for me. (Prolly free since I do all his books at work). So, needless to say, thanks for all your ideas guys. Looks like I wont be buying the kit.

plus, you really dont need instructions. i did my header install without any written instructions(i did ask a couple guys a few questions before starting).
