valve seals??????
has anyone done the valve seals on there 305tbi mine needs it i think cause she smokes when i start her up in the mornings. dosent do it any other time...... so is it a hard job? and how long does it take..... and also im putting together a 355 should i just wait it out and see how bad it gets? thanks
well your in for a time consuming job although not all that hard and the stem seals are cheap it is never the less a pain in the butt you can do this a few different ways after moving all the wires houses smog stuff and remove the valve covers and cleanup all around the valves to include scraping out whatever sludge you may come across being ever so carefull so not to push or drop any crap down the oil return holes then pluging all the holes with a shop rag pull the plugs out now you can either get an air compressor and presurize the cyllinders one at a time to hold the valves up while taking the springs and retainers off and changing the seals or you can chance it without a compressor by bringing the pistons up to tdc or slightly below and stick a brass or aluminum rod in the plug hole to lift the valves as needed during the reinstalation process i would recomend both the bar style and screw down spring style compressors be on hand when doing this job also a cheap telescoping magnet in case some of those retainers get away from you lol a can of carb cleaner for those tight to clean spots and plenty of rags and of course time also remember witch end of the push rods go to the rocker arms so as to keep wear to a minumum after reinstallation,,have fun
