Motor power goal
Motor power goal
I think I may have finally come up with a reasonable goal for my car. Here is what I'm thinking. I would like to do a 1 HP per CI buildup on the motor. So the motor puts out 305 HP. Then get say 150-200 hp worth of nitrous and a little diet and I should have a pretty good performer. My car is a T topped 305 with a 5 speed.
What will it take to produce 305 HP on one of our motors. I know that full exhaust will be involved. What cam/head/intake combo will it take to get those numbers? Will I have to get the 650 CFM TBI or will our little stocker flow enought for my goal?
Thanks for any information.

This is all you need.

As far as the stock one flowing 'enough', I doubt it. The place you will lose power with a smaller TB is in the top end. Unless you spend 90% of your time at WOT, then it should be fine.
Now you have to go to the DIY PROM board and learn how to burn chips for it.

Will that combo work with TBI also? They were using a 750 CFM carb, even with the ulitmate TBI mod I won't be flowing near that much. Would a 760 CFM be required?

The 670 Holley (I hope 760 was a typo) is a good upgrade later on, but it's not something you'll need right now. It will help though, but as I said, only on the upper HP, like over 4500RPM.
That's why the stock cam and heads and such are so small on the LO3. The cfm of the stock TBI won't flow enough to make a huge improvement after you go with a much bigger cam, so the 670 will help.
And don't think that a 670 cfm TB will flow as well as a 650 carb. It won't. They are rated totally different ways. A 2 port 670 cfm TB only flows about the same as a 4 barrel 500 carb.

How much power are you making now? What are your mods and what would you do differently to reach your goal. I only want to have to do this once so any advice would be great.
Would any of you change anything that is in that article?
Thanks
