old power pack heads, anyone ever used them?
Hey newbie here. been checking out the site for a while. My question is, has anyone ever used any old 283 power pack heads casting # 896. I have a set lying around and my small block performance book says they have 137cc intake runners and 59 cc combust. chambers. Would it be worth the while to have larger valves installed with hardened exhaust seats. The stock intake valve dia. is 1.72". Im trying to save a little money and use some stuff I already have

They're ok, but by the time you actually put them together so that they work, you could have bought a set of 416 or 081 castings and ported them at home and made a lot more power outta the 416/081's.

Well I get everything done for about $250. I did all of this before on a set of 041 heads for my 355 S10. I get a pretty good deal on quality machine work and I already have the heads so I wont have to look for another set and they will probably need work too, plus if I don't use them for something they will just sit around. They are a very thick casting so I can port the living crap out of them and they have got to be better than LO3 heads so what the hell
