I dreamt Up Some TBI Motor Combos...

Hey guys - just killin' time so i fig. I'd post a fun buildup...

350 SBC:

400 Block .030 over
327 Crank (3.00 In stroke - nodular if possible)
Ross Forged Pistons
Chevy PM Rods
Wrld Prod. Sprtsmn II Heads
Holley TBI Intake
Crane Compu-Cam (218'/222' dur)(.460/.460)(roller) lift
Crane Roller-Lifters Hyd.
Summit Roller Rockers
Comp. Cams Springs/Hardened Push Rods

Misc: This motor would obviously be designed for high-rpm, so a strong balancing job, upgraded valve-train components, aftermarket rod/main bolts, and a windage tray (as a 400 never would have come w/one) would help out to that end.

From what I can tell this motor would be a total screamer - it would have the rpm potential of a 5.0 Chevy (around 7,500 rpm?) and would be able to make power up to about 7,000 with the cam. Really, I'm going on the understanding that without stretching the CID of a TBI motor and utilizing a roller cam to maintain vacuum, one could make good use of TBI (besides - I think they have better throttle response). Figuring in proper tuning and (a supercharger?) I'd bet this could make from 400hp to 550hp easily.

I think you ment a 265/283/302 crank, that's 3", a 305/350 crank is 3.48", a 307/327 crank is 3.25", a 400 is 3.75", and the new chevy 383 stroker crank is 3.80".
As far as reving high, you're on the right track with lots of duration and not going crazy with lift but this will starve the motor of air (with those heads) and never make it to 7500 pulling.
Nodular is great and plenty but forged is better .
The biggest problem is getting TBI to idle AND provide enough fuel for 7500rpm. It would need some kind of pressure modification unless you don't mind the injectors only firing once in a while to remain at idle . Then there is the problem that anything past 6400rpm isn't known so the fuel and timing at 6400 is exactly what you'd get at 7500.

A dream TBI engine of mine;
455 cubes of small block (aftermarket Dart Iron Eagle block)
AFR heads ported
X-ram intake with dual 2" 670 TB units
A low duration, high lift, cam with a 6400 redline
Either that or same short block but with a standard ported dual plane intake made to look stock and have everything look stock from the valve covers that hide nice rocker arms do the stock looking stewarts water pump . That would be a sleeper and to say it's just a 305 with TBI, hehe.

my bad - i did mean a 327 crank, but i typed the wrong stroke, the 327 is close to around 3 1/4 inches or something.

hi again all

i was kinda thinking to myself about something

how compatible would a 283 be in a 305 TBI car? I'm no pro on how the fuel injection system reacts to bore/stroke modification, but a long-rod 283 (you could fit a 6.25 for in this block) would be a real killer buildup with a nice set of heads and a .040 punch.

OH YEAH! you guys def. wanna hear this

A friend and i stumbled across an add in the paper for a 94 Caprice 4.3 for sale (the "baby LT1") with a complete wiring harness, injector system, and a rebuildable LT1 alongside it for $850. I'mna give you guys 1 guess as to what to do with this baby - the 4.3 is a 3inch stroke small block with a 3.5inch bore - did it click yet? I'm dying to hear what you guys would think about this and how it would interract with a 305 fuel system. Just think: a balanced, long rod, roller-cammed, aluminum headed honest-to-goodness 302 Chevy - MODERNIZED!!!

Ty

*yeah, i'm home sick from class today - i gotta do somethin'!!*
