LO3 Dyno and Track Numbers

I've been doing dyno and track runs during the summer in tuning my car and here's what I've got in terms of results...

I'm doing this as a little diary of what I've done to the car in mods to show you what my LO3 can do. This is a good way to gage what mods are worthwhile and what combinations can give you results without breaking the bank. I'm going to make updates like this every few months or when I can run the car on track/dyno. Unfortunately its getting to winter here up north, so I'm gonna go through more planning. My goal at the moment is to run 14's with stock cam, heads and intake. No ultimate TBI mods even... An injector spacer.. not much of an ultimate TBI mod lol...

I have a crappy camera so bear with me, I went through photoshop to enlarge the picture and contrast (not the numbers).

You may be in for a shock as the times and trap speeds DON'T reflect what the rear wheel dyno sees...

Since this is Rear Wheel Horsepower and Torque, the drivetrain is listed as it WILL affect readings for torque. Since horsepower is a function of torque it will also be affected too.

For this dyno these are the mods:

Custom Cold Air Intake
March Underpulley (Crank Only)
MSD GM Blaster Coil
Borg Warner 8 mm Wires
Borg Warner Distributor Cap/Rotor
Bosch Platinum Spark Plugs
94 Octane Fuel
8 Degrees Timing
3.23 Rear Differential Drum Brakes
180 Degree Thromostat
Injector Spacer
IROC-Z 16's (Came with car stock, my dad was the first owner)
Steel Driveshaft
Stock 700r4
Dynomax 2.5 Inch Cat
Flowmaster 80 Exhaust
Stock Tubing

Ignore the first run, its a mistake, I don't have 334 ft/lb of torque nor 179 HP

The third run was highest, 258.4 ft/lb and 155.9 HP

This is the dyno graph, after 4200 RPM I suffer from backfire through the intake due to insane pressures caused by the stock headers.

After that dyno, I went and got a cutout for my car before the cat. It was a cheap way to ease the backpressure instead of headers.

Results are a 15.679.

I then got 1.6 Roller Tip Comp Magnum Rockers.

I ran these following times consistently...

I'm on the right, car 813 and running 15.4 times, the other car was 92Zeddar and he smoked me with a new personal best for himself there with a 305 TPI...

I kept bouncing b/w 15.45 and 15.49 with 90-91.5 mph in trap speeds... damn 2.3 60 ft were hurting...

So I did the next best thing... I dropped my air pressure on my tires to 28 PSI from the previous 32 PSI and pulled a personal best... 15.414.

Car 813 once again, but on the left side...

Your 60' is killing you

With that trap speed, you should be running 15.0x's! Fix your launch!

28 PSI is NOT low pressure. Go much lower.

Also, do the poor-man's torque arm mod. It worked awesome for me.

Would you believe it was me that e-mailed him asking for this info . Who would have guessed I would be behind it.
The reason I wanted some stock dyno stuff was to compare desktop dyno vs trap speed vs volumetric efficiency.
Going to the track Sunday, hopefully some better times than the 13.8 and maybe an extra mph or 2. I just hope it doesn't snow cross fingers.

Thanks!

Thanks Pablo,

Unfortunately, the car it put away in storage for the winter, and I never did get the pic's. It's really simple though; remove T/A mount, drill right through the whole assy (I used a 3/8" drill) and re-install mount. Pull the T/A down and secure it somehow, drill two 3/8" holes about 3/4" from each other, and connect them with a die grinder(to accomodate for susp travel). Re-connect T/A, and intall bolt through assy. Go get sub 2.0 60' times!
