330 Hp Crate with TBI-- Who has one??
330 Hp Crate with TBI-- Who has one??
This would be a good(cheap) swap.
My question is how did you run the EGR with the vortec heads?
And how does it run with the TBI? I have a 454 TBI Im building to put on my swap.
Im still looking at all my options, and was planning on rebuilding a smallblock 400, a freind of mine has 2 complete 400's that need rebuilt. But for the same money the 330 Hp crate looks good also.
Peace

I bought the 300hp tbi crate motor from goautocenter.com.
At the time I bought it, there wasn't a smog legal tbi manifold for it, but there is now.
GMPP makes a tbi/vortec manifold, but to use the egr, you have to connect a flange on the intake to a tube that must be welded onto one of the header tubes.
http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...d=738&pid=8154
Available at Scoggin-Dickey for $269.59.
The egr issue and CA smog is why I ended up not going with the vortec motor, but it's a more straightforward swap now.
This is what I ended up with instead of the 330HP vortec crate:
http://www.goautocenter.com/300hp_tpi_1987-89.htm
I think somebody on this board has the 330hp vortec with tbi, and I'm sure they can tell you more about how well the tbi works on it.

I have a 330HP deluxe I changed over to TBI. but sorry I cant help out with the EGR info, it's in a van chassis.
With all the cam the 330 has and the weight I had a lot of tuning to the chip to make it right, but it is WAY better running than with the carb.

I have the motor and I should have had EGR for NJ inspection...oh well
. They looked and didn't care so long as it passed emissions tests and they wanted to see some slips for the smog legal stuff (intake and Holley TB). If you need EGR then you can run an ANLU eprom without having to disable EGR. Plus you'll get better gas milage, although I'm already getting 14/24mpg.

Yes, 317 HP@4500 and 399 ft/lbs @ 2500 RPM.
This is with the Crane Compucam 2030HR cam
(listed as optional tbi cam on the goautocenter.com 300 hp tpi crate motor)
I'm using a Turbo City Ported Throttle Body and AFPR, Edelbrock Performer TBI Intake,SLP 1-5/8"Headers, 3" Cat, Flowmaster 3" Cat-Back, and a custom chip from Ed Wright at Fastchip.com.
The cam is great for tbi (116 deg L/S) though it idles like a stock motor. So far I've put over 20,000 miles on it since installing it last December. It passes smog in CA (as a 305) and can easily take 4.6 Mustangs. I've actually smoked every 4.6 Cobra I've come up against so far. Unfortunately, the torque is taking it's toll on my weak T5 transmission, though. It's starting to growl and whine in 2nd and 3rd, so it won't be long before it's gone. Getting a lot of vibration in 1st gear as well. Well I hoped it would last a year and it just about has. Looking at the TKO tranny swap next month.
E-mail me if you need more info.

The lucky guy lives in CA, not like our ****ty Ohio tracks that close when it starts to snow. pffft, get out the big jet track dryer, I'll race in february!
So RICH92RS350 two questions one are these flywheel numbers or at the rear wheels? second you got 317 horses out of her with a smaller cam than they original had. what about if you had kept the original cam I should think that would be worth about 15-20 horse. Did you not think the TBI could feed it enough fuel cause it looks like on the dyno that they supplied that with that much cam it is still gonna run out of steam at 5000 RPM anyway and the TBI should be able to supply enough fuel to pull to 5 grand. Or am I wrong? because this combo is looking very appealing for my 92 bird I am looking for a motor that will run me into mid to low 13's with an upgraded TBI (Holley 670) and then hitting the motor with about 75 to 100 shot of nitrous to put me high 12's.

Yes, those are flywheel #'s. Haven't had it on a chassis dyno yet, but those #'s are with all the accessories installed and muffler.
I ordered the motor with the cam they (goautocenter.com)recommended for tbi, because that's what I'm using. Biggest difference in the two cams is Lobe Separation, as the tbi seems to really like the strong vacuum signal provided by 116 degrees.
It pulls pretty hard up to a little over 5000, but the Edelbrock Performer TBI Intake may be a limiting factor as well. I had to keep it smog legal as I live in CA.
I see no reason you couldn't get mid to low 13's with either cam and that 75-100 shot of juice.
Chip tuning , I'm sure could net a few more horses, as my custom chip was burned for my application, but without actual a/f dyno numbers to tweek. (I gave them all the motor's specs and they burned and mailed it to me)
With the cop caprice injectors my fuel pressure's pretty high (about 18 psi). May be able to get away with less duty cycle and pressure using 454 injectors.

well now I see what you mean about the lobe seperation I just wanted a little more cam for a 350 than 204 214. So you are using the edelbrock TBI intake has anybody here tried a duel plane carb manifiold and adapted the TBI for it like using a Performer RPM?

I recently installed the 300 hp TBI crate motor from scoggin dickey chevrolet. At first I used the stock set up with the 305 TBI and an aftermarket chip. I put in a fuel pressure gauge and a air/fuel mix. gauge and the car was running extremely lean at highway speeds. I put on a blueprinted TBI from turbo city and matched 61# injectors and it helped a LOT, but I still need a custom eprom. Don't know about track times yet I want to get rid of the 2.73's in the back. They are killing me.
