Open Element Or Dual Snorkel

IVE BEEN READING AROUND ABOUT OPEN ELEMENTS TO INSTALL ON MY 305TBI, THEN I STARTED TO SEE SOME OF THIS DUAL SNORKEL STUFF AND THE PROS OF IT OVER THE OPEN ELEMENT SUCH AS COLDER PRESSUREIZED AIR OVER HOT COMPARTMENT AIR, ECT.. WHATS THE CONSENSUS ON THIS. WHICH IS BETTER OPEN ELEMENT OR DUAL SNORKEL.

dual snorkel is way better because it draws in cold air

Dual snorkels ...
Good - draws in cooler air

Bad - Hard to find and can be expensive, still restrictive at some and takes up a lot of your engine bay. Also you have those heat baffels that restrict airflow even more.

Open element ....
Good - Cheaper, draws in more air, simple design so it doesnt look like a squid, and it comes in shiney chrome

Bad - sucks in hotter air but i think since 55% of everything that was in my engine bay was removed, and the ASCD hood shoving in cold air makes up for it.

Id go with a open element myself .... less hassles.

It also depends on outside air temps. I have an open element, but after a few days with it on in the 95*+ temps i realized that after the engine warmend up it was so hot under there that it was performing worse than with the stock box so i went back to the stock. Now that its cooler outside i would like to put it back on but i accidentally left it at home when i moved up here so i will have to pick it up on thanksgiving or christmas. If you can get it though the dual snorkal would be the way to go with a stock hood.

if you have the duct and the scoops....then go dual snorkle.., but if you dont, i say get a cheap 14inch open element and throw a K&N in it and you are set. a 14 in K&N open element will outflow that 12inch dual snorkle anyday of the week. but then you gotta think about air temps as well. i had to go with a open element due to hood clearance, and ohh boy can you hear that thing sucking in air!! much better than my previous dual snorkle set up...but then i didnt have the ducting or the scoops either.

dual snorkle = $$ and effort, with little tangible result compared to open

open = simple, cheap (~$30), effective

I made my dual snorkel out of a extra air cleaner and hoses I got from the junk yard.

Price $25.00

It took about 2 hours and worth it.
