I was just thinking about the camaro and firebird motors in third gens and want to win an argument(the V8's that is)... I say that they are both the exact same motor...but my father is tellin me they are different... but he is still thinkin back in the 60's.... can anyone help me out.......
Also my father tells me that the headers and intake off of my uncle's 70's 350 motor out of his smashed camaro won't fit on my 305...once again i can't see why they wouldn't ... but i don't know...anyway thanks for the help

Yes theyre the same. 1981 was the last of the Pontiacs getting poncho engines. 1982 was the beginning of the "corporate" engines. If it wouldnt have changed we would have gotten a turbo TA in 82. The 301 Turbo from the 80/81 cars had been pepped up a bit was scheduled to make its way into the 3rd generation TAs.

 

Sorry Dad, your wrong. All the V-8's in both the thirdgen and fourthgen Camaro's and Firebird's are of the Chevy 305 or Chevy 350. The last time a true Pontiac motor made it's way into a Firebird was in the '81 Firebird Trans Am's, which was the 400 (6.5 Liter, and there wasn't that many, either). Most of the 79-81 FBird's had the 403 Olds (6.6 Liter) motor in them.

Yes, the headers from the uncle's 350 will fit the 305 engine. HOWEVER, you will into problems with those headers when installed in a thirdgen f-Body due to frame/body configurations.
