I agree. If price wasnt an object I'd get SLPs. However, Im a poor college kid so I went with the Hooker 2055's and Im ultra happy with them.

the y-pip is really teh key to any good set of headers. you can get a local shop to make you a good one for 100-150 usually. so if you get the hooker/hedman/flowtech headers you are still getting the same 4 into 1 type shortie header that slp and edelbrock offer, the difference is that slp and edelbrock come with very good y-pipes and the hedman/flowtech/hooker comes with a rather crappy y-pipe. if you get one of the cheapy sets of headers and have the y-pipe made you will still come out ahead of the game a bit as far as money spent. you will also need to have a bung welded in for your O2 sensor with some of the cheap sets, which is no big deal.

later

What is crappy about the Hooker y pipe? Its straight 2.5" collectors and a 3" to the cat. Fit perfect, Im not overly excited as to how the two ends come together, but I wouldnt say its a bad piece by a long shot.

Any y-pipe has to be a HUGE improvement over the **** poor job that GM did on the original one. I couldn't believe the difference when I set my original pipe beside the Edelbrock pipe.

My contribution to this thread is to get the headers and y-pipe for a single cat TPI car to ensure that you get the 3" outlet on the y-pipe and not stuck with a 2.5" outlet.

I have a set of the 1 5/8" TES Hedman shorty headers installed. They were a pretty nice gain, though the y-pipe that comes with them leaves something to be desired. Definetely better than the stock one though. If I had it to do over, I would have saved the extra money and had them coated, and went with the 1 3/4"s.
