305 TBI plan

Can anyone offer tips or suggestions on this project ?
(this is my first thirdgen - my previous was a 95)
I'm looking for part suggestions or cautions.

This is my daily driver / weekend toy - so it has to remain
at least moderately streetable.

Phase I - Exhaust
Headers 1 5/8" primaries (Custom ? or Aftermarket)
3" I pipe
3" Single in/out Muffler (Not sure which model/brand yet)

Phase II - Intake
Manifold (Thinking RPM Performer)
Ultimate TBI mods (Aftermarket units seem to be overkill)
Cam (Want something more agressive than an LT1)
Cloyes True Roller Timing Chain
More efficient 1.6 rockers (Crane Cams?)

Heads are a later project.
Exhaust goes first because I am tired of the noise my
current setup makes

The only thing I would add to that would be Gears and Posi. If you want to feel the benefits of each mod I would throw that inbetween phase 1 and phase 2. Phase 1.5 maybe. 3.42 is what most run, but 3.73 would be good if your going for the bigger cam. Still very streetable. SLP has the Zexel Torsen Posi for 99.99 right no.

Car: 91 Camaro RS Convertible
Engine: 385ci LT1 cnc ported heads big cam
Transmission: 4L60E automatic
Axle/Gears: 3.42 Zexel posi 7.5" rear
phase 1 looks ok.

Note: I like my Edelbrock TES headers (TPI single cat version). They have 30k miles on them now and I have never had any leaking problems with them.

phase 2:

The LT1 cam is a very good cam in a 305 TBI car. It will rev higher than the same cam in the 350. Plus it gets close to the max lift the heads can handle with 1.5 rockers. 1.6 rockers are going to snap of rocker arm studs and coil bind problems because it will exceed the .480" max lift those heads are capable of with wasting machine work on them. So for phase 2. I would use the LT1 cam with the 1.5 rockers and rocker money on 3.42 posi. You can then add the 1.6 rockers with the new heads in phase 3. Also, in phase 2 you need to add an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a fuel pressure gauge. Also, WINALDL scantool will help in tuning that fuel pressure. Then depending on the time between stage 2 and 3 as to whether to go with custom chip in stage 2 or wait until stage 3.

ok add AFPR ... got it
scrap the 1.6s for now - I should have checked those specs.

I think I will wait on the custom chip until after I get heads on
there. Unless someone is nice enough to teach me how to work
my own program. (I shelled out $500 last time to sit on Ed Wright's dyno when we pushed my previous engine to insane
levels of moddom)

Actually I like the POSI idea, and I enjoyed that install on my
95. But I had a bad experience with gears. Maybe if I do them
both at the same time I will have better luck. I love the SOTP
feeling of 3.73s

I would just take it to a differential shop and have them install it. If you dont get those gears in just right it can cause you major headaches later. Take them your posi, buy the gears from them and have them do it. GM gears are better than aftermarket. No whine from the GM ones...
