TBI to Carb?
hey, i have a 91 rs. i was thinking about switching from the tbi to a carb. but i dont know what kind of results to expect. what kind of carb should i buy? i know its gonna use alot more gas, but i hope it will be worth it. what kind of a gain should i expect? im looking to eventually be able to run about a 14.5-15.0. ive thought about switching to a tune port, but from my research, ive learned that its really complicated and expensive. but let me know what you guys think. thanks
you could get some gains from that swap.
What about smog police in your area?Find out first before you do it so you can stay legal. Why do you want to do this when there are alot of good things with TBI?

Airflow enhancer
Aftermarket TBI manifold
TBI spacer
Flow matched injectors
Then pick up some budget heads and cam and you'll see mid to low 14's easily.

plenty of power is available under both forms of induction.
the best place to start making power and going quicker is int eh tech articles. the ultimate tbi mods, diy afpr, and open element air cleaner swaps are all proven to provide nice gains. all together you can easily get 2 - 3 mph of trap speed at the track from them.
soem of the bigest places to make gains if you wanna make the car quicker are gears and posi. a set of 3.42's or better yet, 3.73's and a posi will knock a ton of time off of your et.
exhaust is alaways nice, headers are not that big an issue at first, but a good y-pipe and a 3 inch cat back definately are important. if you have ever looked at your stock y-pipe you will know what i am talkin about.
getting into teh range you are talkin about is really easy. with simple exernal stuff. a bunch of people have doen it already.
first thing is to get teh car a freesh tune up and oil change and get to the track once to get a base line. from there you can see your gains more clearly.

NJ SPEEDER is correct about it all. i wouldnt recommend going to carb. gas will suck, and theres so much you can do to a tbi which is fairly simple. fulll exhaust, edelbrock intake, cam and rollers, heads... all these arent to complex to do and you will see massive gains from stock. dont get the tbi wrong. its not the engine that f4cked up, its gm for restricting so much power that these engines are capable of.
