Are TBI and TPI distributors the same?!

Are TBI and TPI distributors the same?!

I need to know if a TBI distributor will work with a MAF TPI setup or vice-versa.

I believe the TPI distributors are smaller so they fit behind the plenum but I could be wrong.

I think that TPI engines got distributors with an in-cap coil, but other than that i believe the rest of the distributor is the same as the one in our cars.

My 89 TPI came factory with a external coil..

The early ones had the coil on top, later ones had external.

tbi and tpi both use teh same small cap, divorced coil hei distributors.
