iI guess you could try and pour some in. Itll probably foul the hell out of the plugs when you go to start it back up. The old school trick is to pour water in, not so much that it kills the engine but you can hear it pissing and moaning. That breaks up carbon deposits. Ive also heard of using marvel mystery oil and things of taht nature. There is also top end cleaners made just for this.

thats the stuff. I hear the gm dealers have it. My mechanic friend was telling me about that.
I just did that to my car today, well not the ATF, but at the parts store near me they have a can called engine revive for cleaning such deposits. You just spray it in through the throttle body and follow the instructions.
The good thing I like about this stuff is that it keeps the IAC passages clean. It's also good on carbon deposits too, I take off my egr and spray it in the passages and the egr itself to ensure everything is flowing ok.

you put the atf fluid in the oil before your change. it has detergents in it that will clean up the internals of your engine.
pour it in, idle it for a bit, change oil. you can even change your filter first if you want before you rub it with the atf. this will ensure a clean filter to grab all the gunk thats cleaned away
